Catching Up

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:00:40 – 00:00:48) How you doing?

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:00:48 – 00:00:57) I am doing good. I’m a little chilly.

You know, I will share with our listeners that our little studio. Our spot is freezing cold all the time.

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:00:58 – 00:01:08) It’s freezing. You know, that’s interesting because I’m usually the one who’s cold. Out of all 4 of us left in the house, I’m the one who gets cold, but I’m not cold.

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:01:08 – 00:01:10) Yeah, huh? I’m freezing.

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:01:11 – 00:01:15) I think it’s because I’m sitting— maybe I’ve got more lights warming me up, so.

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:01:15 – 00:01:16) I don’t think that’s it.

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:01:17 – 00:01:17) No?

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:01:18 – 00:01:21) But anyway, tell us about your Airbnb this time.

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:01:22 – 00:01:22) I’m really—

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:01:22 – 00:01:23) Is it big? Is it small?

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:01:24 – 00:01:34) It’s actually more manageable. It’s more manageable this time around. And I’ve— but, you know, I like this place because off every single room there’s a balcony.

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:01:35 – 00:01:35) Ooh.

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:01:35 – 00:01:38) So no matter what time of day, you can find the sun.

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:01:39 – 00:01:41) Have you gone out on the balcony since you’ve been here?

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:01:41 – 00:01:42) Yes, I do. And I’ve been out on the patio.

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:01:42 – 00:01:47) Are there little chairs? Have you, like, taken a cup of tea? Is there a view? What are you seeing on your balcony?

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:01:47 – 00:01:55) That’s the beauty of Airbnb. It’s all furnished. So everything is set to go. Set to go. So every part of the house you can live in.

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:01:56 – 00:01:58) So what’s the best view of this Airbnb?

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:01:58 – 00:02:01) The best view of the city.

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:02:01 – 00:02:02) Oh, you get a city view.

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:02:02 – 00:02:13) You get a city view. Now, we’re not that high up, so it’s a little obstructed on the sides, but right out of the back, you can see most of Hollywood.

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:02:13 – 00:02:14) That’s cool.

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:02:14 – 00:02:14) Yeah.

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:02:14 – 00:02:16) You are really an urban adventurer.

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:02:16 – 00:02:17) Yeah, I love it.

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:02:17 – 00:02:18) So proud of you.

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:02:18 – 00:02:19) I’ve been a city kid my whole life.

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:02:19 – 00:02:21) So proud of you.

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:02:21 – 00:02:26) Yes, thank you. Well, we— I’d say the Robinson household is going to be really excited about this because—

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:02:26 – 00:02:29) I think everybody’s going about this one.

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:02:29 – 00:02:47) Yeah. Austin and Aaron, for those of you who haven’t listened to our show, I talk about them all the time, but they are 16 and 14. So they’re just getting to the point where they watch newsy-type shows, and they love Jon Stewart.

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:02:48 – 00:02:53) That’s who we have, y’all. We have Jon Stewart here with us today.

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:02:53 – 00:02:55) The tables have turned. Yeah.

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:02:55 – 00:02:59) He is now in the guest seat. Let’s do an introduction and get Jon out.

Introducing Jon Stewart

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:02:59 – 00:03:29) Let’s get him out here. All right. Jon Stewart is one of America’s foremost voices in political satire, known for his 16-year run on The Daily Show and his recent return as its host and executive producer.

And Monday nights are perfect because the boys stay up to watch The Daily Show Monday through Thursday, but Monday it’s on for an hour. The rest of the days it’s on for like half an hour. So I just thought I’d throw that out there.

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:03:30 – 00:03:31) I’m just letting you talk.

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:03:31 – 00:03:54) He is also a dedicated social activist whose efforts were instrumental in passing landmark legislation, including the PACT Act and the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund Bill, securing vital support for veterans and first responders. He currently hosts the podcast The Weekly Show.

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:03:54 – 00:03:55) Okay.

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:03:55 – 00:03:58) And without further ado, Jon Stewart.

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:03:58 – 00:04:00) Jon Stewart!

JON STEWART: (00:04:00 – 00:04:03) Hello! Hi!

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:04:03 – 00:04:05) Hello, hello, hello. Thank you for being here.

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:04:05 – 00:04:07) Welcome, my man. How are you?

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:04:07 – 00:04:07) Welcome.

JON STEWART: (00:04:07 – 00:04:14) Thank you so much. That was lovely. I was listening back there to what you were saying and I thought, “Oh my God, did I die?”

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:04:15 – 00:04:17) Oh, it’s like a eulogy.

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:04:17 – 00:04:17) It was a eulogy.

MICHELLE OBAMA: (00:04:18 – 00:04:20) No, you were alive and we’re happy to have you.

JON STEWART: (00:04:21 – 00:04:26) Thank you for— and thank you, Greg, obviously, for letting me stay at the Airbnb. I so appreciate it.

CRAIG ROBINSON: (00:04:26 – 00:04:28) It’s really nice, isn’t it?

JON STEWART: (00:04:28 – 00:04:46) It’s lovely. Although I have to tell you, no disrespect, but if you are in an Airbnb where every room has a balcony, that’s called a hotel.
