Introduction: Sir David the Prophet of Longevity

JOE ROGAN: Mr. Sinclair, good to see you again.

DAVID SINCLAIR: Dr. Sinclair.

JOE ROGAN: Doctor.

DAVID SINCLAIR: I’m kidding.

JOE ROGAN: It’s better that way, right? Yeah. Do you ever introduce yourself as doctor?

DAVID SINCLAIR: Never.

JOE ROGAN: Yeah, it’s kind of a— it’s a weird thing because you’re allowed to.

DAVID SINCLAIR: I’m actually a Sir David from Australia.

JOE ROGAN: But are you a sir?

DAVID SINCLAIR: Yeah, but it’s kind of a joke. I don’t really—

JOE ROGAN: What does that— how does that work out? Did you get knighted or something?

DAVID SINCLAIR: His representative gave me some Australian version of a knighthood, but it— I get to put AO at the end of my name.

JOE ROGAN: AO?

DAVID SINCLAIR: Yeah, Order of Australia. But it actually makes no difference to my life, so it’s just an extra couple of letters.

JOE ROGAN: It’s kind of cool.

DAVID SINCLAIR: I’m honored for sure, but it’s just a joke. You don’t know.

JOE ROGAN: Well, it’s kind of anybody, sir. You meet a guy at the gas station, how you doing, sir?

DAVID SINCLAIR: There’s that. Like, wow, how does he know?

JOE ROGAN: Right? You don’t say, how you doing, King? Yeah, right.

DAVID SINCLAIR: Well, I’m David. I’m Australian. So in Australia, if you have any ego, you get beaten up in the playground.

JOE ROGAN: That is true. Australia is the land of the tall poppy syndrome. They don’t f* around. They don’t like you getting a big head in Australia.

DAVID SINCLAIR: That is true. I like to go back there though because it’s an even level playing field. Nobody cares who you are.

JOE ROGAN: I love the people there. The Australian people are some of my favorite people. They’re awesome. They’re very friendly and fun. It’s a great place to be. It’s just too far to get there. Such a haul.

DAVID SINCLAIR: Oh no, if you just whiskey and an Ambien, you’re there without—

JOE ROGAN: Is that what you do?

DAVID SINCLAIR: I used to. I’ve gone clean. I don’t drink much at all anymore. Last time I was drinking—

JOE ROGAN: How often is drink much at all?

DAVID SINCLAIR: Celebrations.

JOE ROGAN: You want to drink right now?

DAVID SINCLAIR: No, it would be a bad look. I’ve got the coffee that you gave me, which I’m going to try.

JOE ROGAN: Yeah, this is Laird’s superfood coffee. So Laird Hamilton, he has coffee. It’s Black Rifle Coffee mixed with his superfood stuff, which is, this one’s turmeric. So it’s turmeric and I think it has coconut milk in it and some other jazz.

DAVID SINCLAIR: Oh, it’s great. Delicious anti-inflammatory.

JOE ROGAN: Yes, which I know you’re all about.

DAVID SINCLAIR: Yes, as a prophet of longevity.

JOE ROGAN: Yes. Is that another title of yours?

DAVID SINCLAIR: Yes, you can call me Sir David the Prophet. How about that?

JOE ROGAN: Sir David the Prophet. Dr. Sir David the Prophet of Longevity.

DAVID SINCLAIR: That’ll do.

The Longevity Revolution: Where We Are Now

JOE ROGAN: So there’s a lot. Let’s just jump right into it because there is a lot going on in the longevity space.

DAVID SINCLAIR: Thank you for having me back on.

JOE ROGAN: My pleasure.

DAVID SINCLAIR: And by the way, I also want to thank you for— I think this is the 4th time on, which is amazing. Thank you. Congrats on all your success.

JOE ROGAN: Thank you.

DAVID SINCLAIR: It’s been wonderful to see. Also the book that I wrote, which you first had me on to promote, has done so well, and it’s really because of you. The book Lifespan became a bestseller. Not just that, but it’s now been read millions of times around the world. It’s in 40 languages.

JOE ROGAN: Well, that’s phenomenal, and it’s my pleasure.

DAVID SINCLAIR: And that’s not a promo. As you know, you don’t make any money from books really, but I’m just honored that it was read by so many people around the world because it wasn’t an easy read. It was high-tech science.

JOE ROGAN: Well, people are very interested, especially nowadays. I think I’ve never— I can’t recall a time in my life where optimizing your health and longevity has been more of a subject that people are interested in.

DAVID SINCLAIR: Well, I think that’s largely because not to keep blowing smoke up your rear, but largely because of what you did and the book. The book went global, and it was right in 2019, and the pandemic hit. And I think most people saw their own mortality at that point. Most people under the age of about 70 didn’t even think about dying, but then the pandemic, like, shit, I could die. And I saw the book take off. You launched it. But yeah, since then a lot of people have jumped on the bandwagon and now longevity is— I hear this everywhere I go.

JOE ROGAN: It’s everything. It’s everywhere. People are constantly talking about different modalities. How often do you cold plunge? Are you saunaing? What about the red light? Is this legit? Is that legit? Like, everybody’s optimizing everything constantly all the time.

But the reason why it’s caught on is because if you do follow some of the protocols, you will feel better.
